Background

farmvest-HowardKaplanHoward Kaplan, Founder and President of Farmvest, Inc., has dedicated himself to providing consulting and advisory services in renewable resources for over 30 years. Farmvest advises institutional investors on global agriculture, global timber, water rights, and domestic mitigation banking. From 2011 to current, Farmvest provides institutional advisory services under sub-contract to Real Asset Portfolio Management (RAPM), a real assets investment advisory service that was sold to Hamilton Lane in 2017 along with assuming the RAPM contract with Farmvest, Inc..  Mr. Kaplan is currently assisting an institutional investor with development of a $300 million global renewable resources portfolio. From 2007 until 2011, Mr. Kaplan was President of ORG Natural Resources, a division of ORG Portfolio Management LLC. During this time, he provided due diligence services on nearly $3.5 billion of timber and agriculture transactions. Through his work, he has gained extensive knowledge of the manager universe serving these categories.

Earlier, Mr. Kaplan provided services as President of Agvest/Farmvest, Inc. on a global basis that included valuation, acquisition, management, monitoring, and disposition of renewable resource properties, portfolios and real estate securities.

Mr. Kaplan was published in the Journal of Portfolio Management, and Pensions and Investments. He graduated from Michigan State University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and from the University of California at Berkeley with an MBA. He is a licensed real estate broker and a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Practical hands-on experience in soil science, irrigation design, harvest, and marketing has given Mr. Kaplan the detailed understanding of renewable resource assets from the ground up. Combined with his background in financial securities as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and as a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) analyst, he provides a truly unique and valuable perspective on both the technical attributes and financial implications of farmland and timberland investing.
